Beauty is a double-edged sword. Growing up with an aesthetic education, I’ve always been fascinated with pursuing beauty, but I never knew what beauty could bring me. The “Risk of Beauty” is the second in my “Exploration of Beauty” trilogy. The first one is “Pursuit of Beauty,” where I fanatically chase the fashion trend, starve myself, simply to fit in the morbid aesthetic standard of slim bodies. The second stage is where I finally become beautiful enough to be the center of attention. This beauty I’ve paid so much for was bringing me more than I expected: it attracts people of all kinds. Sometimes I feel myself falling into an abyss, while there are numerous eyes staring at me, but when I try to look back at them, they tend to disappear. The third stage would be “Manipulation of Beauty”, which is an ideal stage I describe for myself: appropriately make use of the beauty I possess, but smartly avoid getting harmed in any way. While I gradually realize more about the truths of the world and how beauty is perceived and functioned, I’m still exploring the exact methodology to manipulate beauty.
